Emma’s story ….
Emma is a 5-year-old girl. At 18 months, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor with metastases in her spine. Life had just changed drastically for Emma and her family.
In November 2018, the little girl’s treatments began, forcing her parents Marie-Pierre Garon (Univers de la coiffure) and Richard Deschênes (Kia Automobiles) to take time off work. For 6 months, little Emma had to undergo various treatments in Quebec City and/or Montreal.
By the age of 3, Emma had managed to overcome the metastases but unfortunately, 30% of the brain tumor could not be removed.
In October 2022, just as little Emma was eagerly starting nursery school, health problems resurfaced, and the family returned to the hospital where they were told the sad news that the cancer had returned.
Emma will have to undergo 20 radiotherapy treatments of about 45 minutes each, followed by a second series of 10 15-minute treatments, probably accompanied by chemotherapy. The expenses related to healthcare are very high and Marie-Pierre had to stop working to stay with her daughter.
